Really . Martha?

Over the weekend my mother passed on a huge pile of Real Simple and Martha Stewart magazines. Both magazines have the cutest pictures and always really helpful tips for organization, decorating, and cooking. But Martha Stewart brings me equal parts joy and displeasure for these things. Her cooking "tips" cause me particular difficulty.

The February issue was filled with all sorts of cupcakes that you can just "whip up" for your valentine or for party guests. And the cupcakes are sooooo lovely:




But lets be clear: my cupcakes would not look like those in the pictures. There are about 20 different steps just to making that little marzipan bumble bee (and don't get me started on making/shaping/baking meringue flowers!).

I can make a tasty cupcake, but it's going to have a big pile of chocolate frosting on top (and maybe some that kind of drips down the side).

What can I say? Just another reason why I don't have my own cooking show and Martha does!

    I mean, those are so perfect, they look fake....who can do that without spending HOURS in the kitchen?? lol.

    I couldn't agree more with you...the one thing that drives me crazy with Martha! Of course, I could make those too if I had a staff too! I think I like your chocolate ones better.

    dude!!! those are CRAZY!! i don't think i could dedicate the 4 hours required to make such beautiful things that i could gobble up in 40 seconds!

    Wow, these cup cakes are gorgeous, if one actually has the time. I think if i made these i wouldn't want anyone to eat them, i'd protect them with my life and send evil stares at those who even looked like they wanted to eat one!!

    Love Martha/hate Martha. Anyone can make gorgeous cupcakes like that with a team of behind the scenes on-staff bakers. Honestly, I do love, but most of her recipes are too time consuming and many require ingredients from specialty stores, so I never cook them. I totally dig that Martha is always giving props to Etsy on her show.

    And Martha gets paid quite a lot of money to spend a lot of time mucking around with these little cupcake wonders! It'd be such a shame to eat them after all that effort! My cupcakes would also never look like this in a million years. Hundreds and thousands is my decoration of choice ;)
