Have . a . Seat

Isn't this sitting area (posted on Dream House) perfection?

To me, the room looks so bright, warm, and cozy, but it's almost entirely done in a neutral palette. In fact, the only real color is coming from the plants that have been set about the room. This just goes to show that you add some "pop" to a room for almost no money.

One of the easiest ways to add some green to a room with almost no cost and very little upkeep is to get (or make) a mossy terrarium:

Rock Garden Terrarium from Doodle Bird Designs

We've had ours since June of this year, and only had to mist it once!

Perhaps the best house plant to get is something called Jade Pothos. Large baskets of these are inexpensive (usually $15-$20), they only need partial sun, they grow like crazy, and they can be separated after awhile, so you can get two plants from one!

It's really amazing how much one of these can change the look of a room. If you're thinking about a JP, most supermarkets carry these, as does the home improvement store Lowes.

  4. Great post! I only have about 4 plants in the entire house during the warmer months (the others get moved outside), and I really could use more pops of green. My living room is all browns and warm colors, and adding a couple more plants would go a long way toward de-browning the space. Now I just have to figure out where to put them. Unfortunately, I get messy when watering and have a bad habit of putting plant rings on good furniture :( Perhaps a few terrariums would do the trick.
