IKEA . Strikes . Again

Sorry for not posting yesterday, but I was at IKEA for literally the whole day! Now that we have an actual house, we also have an actual reason to buy actual furniture! Most of our things are currently a mix of vintage (my parents are antique dealers!) and newer pieces, and yesterday we went to round out the "newer" part of our collection.

For only $1300.00 we ended up with: a new bed, an entertainment center/cabinet, a dining table and four chairs, an office desk, a cute filing cabinet, a tall mirror, and some various other household goodies!

I'll make sure to post pics once we have everything (ugh) put together.

And in other, unrelated news, can I please have Scarlett Johansson's hair?

Bueller? Bueller?

The house that was used as Cameron's in the movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off is up on the market for 2.3 million. I love.love this movie, and I love.love this house -- I would absolutely buy this pretty little thing...

...if I had 2.3 million dollars, that is.

All . Dressed . Up

While most of what goes with being a celebrity or socialite seems strongly unappealing to me (think: cameras following you everywhere), one aspect that I lust over is the sheer number of events each year that require you to wear utterly amazing clothing. Alas, I don't have many...okay, any events where I get to wear a ball gown.

So for now, I'll just have to drool over others' amazing dresses.

At the American Ballet Theatre, most came in gorgeous Carolina Herrera frocks:

And there was all manner of lovely dressing going on at Cannes:

Velvet . June . 2009

A lot of fashion magazines are really hit or miss for me - particularly the big names like Vogue and W - sometimes their editorials are amazing, and other times I can get through an entire issue without being wowed.

Not so with Velvet Magazine. Each new issue is lush and gorgeously constructed. This brilliant piece appears in the new June 09 issue:

What are your favorite "can't miss" magazines?

Can't . They . Afford . Stylists?

I'm normally a big fan of the GG girls - and their personal style - but something has gone awry at this event:

Jessica Szohr, who normally dresses a smidge on the plain side, looks STUNNING here! That blue dress is perfection on her! Leighton is okay, but she kind of looks like she wore a bad 80's blazer and forgot her pants. Blake herself looks lovely, but she bought a romper that seems not very well-proportioned.

And then there's Taylor. I get that she wants to dress.act.be older, and IMO, she can wear whatever she wants - if it doesn't make her look like a groupie/hooker. Can't someone help her tone it down just a little?

Bottega . Veneta . & . Erdem

Fashion always seems to be moving very quickly - we're not even to the official start of summer yet, and designers are presenting their resort 2010 collections. While I don't know how to think about what I should wear on a mid-winter vacation that's still seven months away, I am capable of drooling over some gorgeous.lovely clothes!

Bottega Veneta, Cruise 2010:

Erdem, Cruise 2010:

Of these two, I'm rather partial to the looks from Bottega - the bright colors feel a bit more vacation-y to me. What do you think?

Ode . to ...

...the Fendi Medium "B" Bag:

This is one of my favorite bags, and probably the style from Fendi that I'm most partial to. It can be worn as either a shoulder bag, or simply draped over the arm. It's roomy enough to hold the essentials, and each season they come in pretty new colors.

I only have just two, but hopefully one day I'll have a little rainbow of them! If you've never seen one of these pretty little bags up close, I definitely recommend taking a peek - you'll be hooked!

Pretty . Little . Finds

Since the semester ended (though between helping my brother move and trying to get my own house ready) I've had a smidge more time to sneak away to a few auctions here and there. The past couple of been particularly good, yielding a small selection of pretty little things.

A collection of coral (faux, from eBay; real, from an estate auction) and a huge hunk of rose quartz ($4!):

And then at yesterday's auction, two small collections of earrings, brooches, and bracelets (only $10 for everything!):

I'm off to paint and move some furniture for the rest of the day, but I hope that everyone enjoys the day -- it's lovely weather here!! Happy Thursday!!
