Make-Up . Free . Monday

I honestly don't wear a ton of make-up: concealer under the eyes, tinted moisturizer, bronzer, and mascara. I occasionally will wear lipstick or gloss, but it's kind of a rarity. Even so, when I heard about Make-Up Free Mondays from The Beauty Bean, my response was "Ha!"

"Ha, ha, ha, ha..."

Because, lets face it, the idea of going outside - further than the mailbox outside - without any kind of make-up at all is terrifying. Venturing out without make-up is for supermodels and people with flawless complexions.

But we're on vacation right now (at least in as much as a visit to the in-laws can be), and it's hot. Surface of the sun hot. And I have no interest in doing anything that will make my skin feel covered, much less do I feel like sticking a hot curling iron in my hair. So today is not only Make-up Free Monday, but also, I'm Not Bothering with My Hair Monday as well.

What about you? Have you done Make-up Free Monday? (or tuesday, wednesday, thursday....) If not, would you? Is going "nude" a big departure from your normal routine?

P.S. - Apologies for the somewhat glazed look in the photo. I'd like to blame on the MacBook camera, but it's likely a result of me having no capacity to look natural in close-up pictures. Probably.

Swept . Away

Blouse: Sunner, from Anthropologie
Jeans: Kohls
Necklace: Banana Republic
Sandals: Urban Outfitters

Today photos were somewhat hampered/aided by the strong gusts of wind here. As I had little interesting in flashing people, there were lots of photo breaks where I just had to hold my shirt down!

Speaking of the shirt though, it's my new favorite. I found it hanging on the sale rack at Anthropologie. It's one of those ones that looks a little odd on the hanger, but on it's actually really cute + amazingly comfortable.

Last night we went to Tommy's for dinner. They have a sandwich that's all levels of incredible: falafel + tomato + cheese + sprouts + sesame seeds + hummus + sesame sauce // baked on a yummy bread. It's also of the size that half got to come home with me and will warmed up today for some version of a breakfast/lunch thing :)

Vintage . Finds

Yesterday there were a whole slew of pretty vintage dresses to be had, though my favorite find has to be this rayon number from the early 1940s. She's in rough shape - there's more than a pinch of discoloration + she has a smattering of tiny holes - but the bright print against the black was sort of irresistible.

Yesterday's search also yielded this gorgeous vintage Pierre Cardin leather case. The interior is in excellent shape, and the exterior is perfectly distressed/worn; I think I'll end up using it as a very oversized clutch.

I'm off to do more shopping today - though it may be of the more damaging kind, i.e., Chanel, LV, and then Anthropologie - wish me luck!

What are your plans for the long weekend? xoxo

Vintage . Twins

I was browsing through pages and pages of Man Repeller's old blog posts because I'm kind of obsessed, and came across this post in which she has her hair done + meets this hairstylist Sloane who's wearing a necklace identical to one I sold in my shop.

Holy vintage twins Batman.

Mine did not go to live in NY, so I don't think they're one and the same, just separated at birth.

Flight . of . Fancy

Yesterday we wandered over to a very teeny wildlife preserve - read: a large tiered pond with a path around it - for a short walk. There were tons of a pretty things to be seen, but most importantly, there were goslings! They were right next to the path, and just the cutest little things ever! We were also treated to a pair of mated ducks, and a very elegant heron.

In . the . Summer . Heat

"The unbroken wall of your silence, behind which: ghosts
And shadows, thin shapes in constant, shifting flight;
The most intense of intimacies, and then complete
Absence....

Stark

"She would always sleep with her husband and with another man in the course of the same day, and then the rest of the day, for whatever was left to her of that day, she would exploit by incanting, 'French film, French film.'"

Weekend

This weekend was filled with a little collection of pretty, fluffy things - the dandelions have started to turn all around the city, and some of the empty lots are covered with them.

We also had this little fuzzy sparrow sitting in our back garden. It was so cute to see him ruffling his fuzz and feathers! The egg of the nesting dove outside the antique store has also hatched and is now is sizable little chick - momma dove keeps trying to cover all of her little bird, but he's too big and keeps poking out!

The rest of the weekend was filled with an art festival, lots of shopping, + dinner with friends. I hope that everyone else had a weekend that was just as lovely!

Hillary . Kerr . of . Who . What . Wear

"The green dress made me swoon the second I laid eyes on it. It's probably my favorite dress in the world. I'm obsessed with all things green and the fact the print was hand-painted? Amazing. Even better: it fit perfectly—that doesn't happen for me with vintage pieces very often. Not to get too romantic on you, but it's like we were made for each other! The gold dress is just a great cocktail frock. I add a little belt, some super high heels, and a gimlet and I'm good to go! Both dresses are very emblematic of my personal style which is pretty feminine and definitely focused on the late '50s/early '60s. Needless to say, I'm kind of a huge Mad Men fan, to put it mildly, and I like to ask myself, 'What would Joan Holloway wear?' whenever I'm getting dressed." Dresses, Vintage; Jewelry, Lia Sophia

Bag, Chloe

"Every time I look at this dress, I just wish it could speak and tell me about all the glamorous parties it has attended. I found it at Shareen Vintage in New York a couple of years ago and bought it immediately. It's so comfortable and the rhinestone-encrusted skirt is just sassy. It's shown with a fabulous necklace Katherine got me when visiting Kanas with one of her besties. The Chanel belt is probably one of the pieces I wear the most—I love a waist belt!"

"Elephants and hippos are just the cutest, aren't they? I love them as décor (I found the jade elephant at a bazaar in Hawaii) or as a quirky piece of jewelry (like the yellow enamel J.Crew pendant)."
Necklace, J. Crew

The Coveteur has a wonderful series that takes a peek at the favorite pieces of a slew of people in the fashion industry - everyone from stylists to bloggers to celebrities. Not only do you feel like you get to share in a pretty little secret, but the goodies are all beautifully photographed.

I was drawn to the piece on Who, What, Wear co-founder, Hillary Kerr. She has classic accessories - Chanel belts, and Chloe bags - but more importantly, a good vintage eye! I think I'm as in love with her green vintage dress as she is!

Cobalt

Skirt: American Apparel
Blouse: Banana Republic
Belt: Vintage
Shoes: Giuseppe Zanotti
Earrings: Forever21

This outfit is actually from a couple of days ago, but as we all know, Blogger has been a bit wackadoo lately.

I almost never go into American Apparel - the bright neon + rude employees + kind of creepy ads all freak me out. However, I saw this skirt in the window and was so swayed by the pretty pleats and shocking color that I had to venture inside. It's so comfortable and lovely that I'm thinking about getting it in a different color too! Is that wrong?

This is also my newest favorite belt. I found it at Lamb's Gate for $5.00 - isn't that little gold cowboy hat perfection?! - and I've been wearing it with a variety of jeans and skirts alike. Love.

Late . Afternoon . Reveal

And so the semester ends, and summer begins with...

... a new pair of shoes! Just what my closet was lacking. He he.

I first saw these on Fashiontoast, and thought, "Oh my god! Bright blue crushed velvet wedges! Must. Have."

So then I wandered over to Theory and immediately discovered that they were out of my size. Boo. I sent a hopeful tweet to them to ask whether a restocking was in store, and they responded crazy fast with a "We'll check into it for you," and shortly thereafter, a resounding, "Yes!"

And then today they arrived.

Phew. Shoe catastrophe narrowly avoided.
