Vintage . Vs . Vintage

When Free People first started selling vintage, I mentioned that it was quite lovely, well-photographed, but also a little pricey. Well, apparently the folks behind Vintage Loves didn't think it was pricey enough, as the garments are now kind of insane.

For instance, the Tweed Coat on the left rings up at $798.00, before tax. For that, I suspect that it must come with a few loose diamonds in the pocket, but for one reason or another, they're keeping it hush-hush.

If you want a coat of the same style, but much prettier (and priced for sane people), there's the New York City Tweed Coat, on the right, from Sally Jane Vintage. At $88.00, it's got a cute fur collar and gorgy burgundy color + you're buying from an ETSY seller as compared to a large company!

After . Hours

Jessica Stam isn't normally my favorite model, but I love this. It just feels so relaxed and glamorous. I especially love the outfit in the last photo - it's a little Grey Gardens but still kind of modern too.

Cat . Eye

I have to shamefully admit that makeup-wise, I'm not a very adventurous person. My routine is pretty much the same all of the time: concealer (pesky dark circles), tinted moisturizer, basic eyeliner, mascara. It takes me all of five seconds to do my makeup.

Recently I've been trying to expand my repertoire (if you can call it that), and have been doing a cat eye for day. Trouble is this: it is not easy to use liquid eyeliner to draw a straight line on your own eye. I've watched a couple of quick tip videos and read a few beauty articles, but there are times when I still have to wipe everything off and start over.

But when it works, I love it. Does anyone have any good tips for doing this yourself?

Meet . the . Parents

This afternoon I drove out to my parents' house. They just had a new kitchen floor put in that I was anxious to see + my dad got a bunch of 1940s/1950s hats at auction that I needed to pick up. I would kind of love my parents' house no matter what, but Autumn is my favorite time to be there - the trees look amazing, and my mom's outdoor decorating is perfection - she even did the painting that's hanging on the porch!

Visiting

This past weekend was ridiculously busy: Friday night we drove to Detroit to see comedian Louis C.K., whom I think is absolute perfection. If you've never seen his stand-up (or even if you have), you can see a bit here - though be warned, it's probably not a work-environment-friendly video.

Saturday and Sunday morning were spent cleaning my basement, and it's still not done. It's one of those projects that feels quickly manageable, but then you start, and stuff seems to pour out of the walls and floors. Blah.

Sunday afternoon I got a call from a dear friend who just recently moved back to Michigan, and I drove up north to see her and her adorable children, Berlin and Elijah. We went for a walk in the woods, Berlin (who is 3) showed us how she dances like Michael Jackson, I got to lavish my favorite dog ever (Tucker, the Rottweiler) with attention, and we had loads of good conversation.

I hope that everyone else had a lovely weekend as well!!
