#Instacats

{ Badger + Atticus }

{ Ivy + Gerdie }

{ Nico }

{ Alice }

...also, no, we are not crazy cat people. Three of the cats belong to my parents. Though in all honesty, I probably would have like five cats if B. would let me. And a dog. Maybe some chickens. Possibly a goat. And a mini cow.

Outside Inside

{ vintage animal prints } { x-rays: here, here, and here }

Most of B.'s whole family is comprised of artists: his mother is a painter, one brother makes installations and is a craftsman of sorts, one sister is a painter and and clothing/accessories designer, his brother-in-law is painter and designs houses, another brother-in-law was a photographer, B. draws and plays the guitar.... There's so much creativity in that family that it's depressing.

In my head, I can imagine a lot of interesting projects, but then there's this whole part about having to actually execute something: while in my mind it may look like Picasso, on paper it comes out as advanced stick figures.

So I may just stick to mashing things together here. Though I also have to add, I'm recently obsessed with making things with all of my new graphics collections!

Flight . of . Fancy

Yesterday we wandered over to a very teeny wildlife preserve - read: a large tiered pond with a path around it - for a short walk. There were tons of a pretty things to be seen, but most importantly, there were goslings! They were right next to the path, and just the cutest little things ever! We were also treated to a pair of mated ducks, and a very elegant heron.

They're . Cute . SO . Cute

So even if you're rolling your eyes in an, "Oy, another blog with cute animal pictures" kind of way, I totally don't care. There are pictures just oozing with baby animal cuteness here people! Gah! I want that little bulldog pup. And maybe a piglet also. And a bunny.

Potter . Park . Zoo

B. starts back to teaching this week, and I start next week, so we've been getting in as much end of the summer stuff as we can manage. Today we rode our bikes over to Potter Park Zoo, and then spent the afternoon wandering about.

I always have mixed feelings about zoos, as some of the animals are so clearly miserable, but our local zoo has a lot of re-integration programs, raises money to save natural habitats, and does a lot of education about animals. It's also kind of nice to give money to businesses in the community.

Neither of us had been to a zoo since we went in Toronto a few years ago, and it was a lovely way to spend the afternoon. They have peacocks that just wander around the park, and I wanted to take one or two home with me - wouldn't having a peacock in your yard be sort of magical?

Here . Kitty . Kitty

Martha Stewart has recently adopted two new kitties to come live with her. And when I say "adopted," I mean "purchased from a breeder." Each one of these kittens probably cost more than my monthly mortgage, but they're pretty cute. Like, really cute.

And in related pet news, my mom is adopting (but actually adopting, from a shelter) a new cat! She's an adult cat who's been at the shelter for a very long time. She is missing one leg and has a wonky tail. I'm very excited to meet her!! {For now} her name is Sadie, and she will come to live with my parents' three other cats: Badger, Atticus, and Alice.
