Girl . Crush {Part II}

In this post I mentioned that Garance Dore was responsible for not one, but a full two girl crushes:

I love the feminine floral print with tougher studded belt, and also how you can't quite peg where she's from. Also, how can I get my hair that shiny??

Have . a . Seat

Isn't this sitting area (posted on Dream House) perfection?

To me, the room looks so bright, warm, and cozy, but it's almost entirely done in a neutral palette. In fact, the only real color is coming from the plants that have been set about the room. This just goes to show that you add some "pop" to a room for almost no money.

One of the easiest ways to add some green to a room with almost no cost and very little upkeep is to get (or make) a mossy terrarium:

Rock Garden Terrarium from Doodle Bird Designs

We've had ours since June of this year, and only had to mist it once!

Perhaps the best house plant to get is something called Jade Pothos. Large baskets of these are inexpensive (usually $15-$20), they only need partial sun, they grow like crazy, and they can be separated after awhile, so you can get two plants from one!

It's really amazing how much one of these can change the look of a room. If you're thinking about a JP, most supermarkets carry these, as does the home improvement store Lowes.

Chloe {For . Fall} ... how to do it!

While we can't perhaps run out and buy all of those delicious Chloe shoes and boots, one pair wouldn't hurt, would it? After all, when it comes to the fall/winter season, there are two things that are absolutely worth investing in: a good pair of boots and a fabulous coat. Even if you have to splurge on these items, good pieces will last a long time and go with lots of different outfits. The rest of your fall wardrobe doesn't have to be anything fancy and can certainly be inexpensive.

Below I've paired some of the pretty little Chloe goodies with cute fall outfits. And (minus the investment shoes, of course), each look is under $100!!

These looks would be great for all sorts of goings-on and the focus would remain on the Chloe boots.

P.S. - I realize those green platforms aren't actually boots, but who cares? That green color is fan.tastic.

Chloe {For . Fall}

I love the way a lot of designer shoes look, but in all honesty, I wouldn't get much use out of a pair. For the kind of life that I have (and especially the kind of city I live in) 5" stilettos aren't going to work. A lot of designer shoes are also quite narrow, which doesn't work well for my not-so-narrow feet. One of the only labels to make fabulous looking shoes that are comfortable and practical is Chloe. Even the platforms and high wedges have thick heels and they're ultra cozy...

...which means I'm tearing out my hair about now, because Yoox has some crazy amazing Chloe shoes and boots for fall.

I was sadly not one of the winners of the 333 Million Dollar Mega Millions jackpot this past Friday, but if you were, would you like to buy me a few pairs of these pretty shoes?

Sunday . Morning . Survey

First of all, I want to send a big "thank you!" to all of my readers for being perfectly lovely and wonderful!! Without you, there would be no Pretty Little World!!

Keeping my readers in mind, I want to ask you about the kind of things that you'd like to see more of in the blog -- what sort of topics/posts are you most interested in?? There's a super short survey (just three multiple choice questions!) through Survey Monkey, and I'd love to hear from you!!

Happy Sunday Morning!!

Girl . Crush {Part I}

Garance Dore is a favorite street style blog -- the posts and photographs just seem so whimsical. Recently she seems to have come across practically the most adorable people ever!! She is now responsible for not one, but two of my girl crushes...

...the bangs, the dress, and THOSE TIGHTS!! In the words of Rachel Zoe, I die! While this girl (Tennessee, from the band, The Like) is a musician and can easily pull of cutesy heart tights, what do you think: would these work in the real world?

And . Speaking . of . Balenciaga...

A pretty purple Balenciaga Giant City arrived in the mail today!!

...and I also got new fake glasses, which I absolutely love.love.love.... They were only $10 at Urban Outfitters too!

Technically I'm going to make an attempt at getting some work done this weekend, but well, we'll just have to see how that goes :)

What is everyone else doing this weekend? I hope a little something lovely!!

Jennifer Connelly in another season of ads for Balenciaga:

The F/W 09 campaign is total eye candy and IMO, Jennifer is perfection -- Nicolas Ghesquiere can keep her as the face of the brand for as long he likes!

Just . Glitter . Lust

After peeking at this post on A Cup of Jo, I went browsing about The Sartorialist. Scott's photographs are gorgeous, every one an art piece. However, he doesn't photograph real people. He photographs models, designers, stylists, fashion editors, etc. So I went looking for slightly more genuine street style blogs and came across, Just Glitter Lust and hello, I do lust over these looks!!

This girl who was photographed for the blog is perfection. Easily. I love everything about this look. Yet after looking at it for awhile, I noticed something.

Do you see it?

She's not wearing pants. Shirt? Check. Blazer? Check. Fabulously cool scarf? Check. Pants? Nada.

I'm sorry, but how awesome do you have to be to not wear pants outside and have that be the last thing that people notice? Pretty awesome. Not quite as awesome as Sara, but close.

Mad Men style is everywhere! Check out this 1960s Saks Fifth Avenue Cotton Dress.

Even though this outfit is not so great, Anna Paquin is perfectly adorable! (And she flashes her brand new engagement ring!)

Diana & Ana have a new installment of 6,768 Miles Apart. Swoon....

Droll Girl found the coolest trucks ever made!

My mom gave me a copy of The New Bathroom Idea Book, and it's filled with gorgeous bath designs. If it weren't for that pesky little thing called money, I'd start remodeling today!

Apartment Therapy gives you chic suggestions for ways to put your cake stand to work. I love cake stands - old and new - but never buy them because they'd just sit in the cupboard, so this is perfect!

How . Dumb . Are . We?

This is not at all fashion-related, but as I went to AOL to check my e-mail, there was a link to a 10-question quiz, "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?" It had the subheading, "These are surprisingly tricky!"

Sadly, I was curious, so I went to see just how tricky these questions might be. Then I discovered questions such as,

What is the plural of deer?
a. Deer's
b. Deeres
c. Deer
d. Deere's

It makes me nervous that someone writing for a major online site thought something like this to be a tad on the difficult side, and I'm a little afraid for the US at the moment, because adults having trouble with this type of question would seem to be a major lapse in education. In fact, fifth graders having trouble with this would be a big "uh-oh" sign.

All . Lined . Up

While I've decided that I should have more stripes in my wardrobe, this picture of Clemence Poesy makes me want to wear stripes every day:

...and speaking of stripes, (1) wrong way to wear stripes and ballet flats & (2) right way to wear stripes and ballet flats:

I really want to like Katie Homes, but she makes it very difficult when she looks like she got dressed with her eyes closed. I'm almost entirely certain that she used to be a fashionable person...stylish Katie, where are you?

Emma . Adeline

As I was going through a few blog comments last week, I was perfectly stunned when I came across the fledgling blog, Emma Adeline. Emma is a blogger from Oslo who covers all of my favorites: travel, photography, and most importantly, fashion.

Not only is Emma herself crazy.beautiful, the haunting quality of her photographs has me mesmerized:

Her pics remind me of the lush images in Rush and Lula that I'm constantly pouring over. While she only has a few posts on her new blog, she's definitely one to follow!!

Airport . Style

Wrong:

Right:

Anyone who's ever been on an airplane for like, a second, knows that it's not comfortable. If you have to fly for more than two hours, you're going to come off the plane a smidge rumpled. A mini and platforms is not going to get you around that, and on top of it you'll also be cold and uncomfortable.

Jessica and Kim are doing way.way.way better on the airport style front than Beyonce and Victoria. (Also, if I had my hair pulled back as tightly as VB does, my head would explode.) Layering is key: too hot? Take off the blazer. Too cold? Wrap the scarf!!

Sunday, August 23, 2009

Well, It's Sunday...

...and it's the end of the weekend, already. It was just Friday morning, and now, two seconds later, that time is gone. Le sigh.

I did get some of the things I'd planned to do accomplished, especially taking some new pics and listings things in the shop:

Vintage . Leopard . Fur . Coat

I did get to the recycling center and the grocery store AND got to check out those hot little black pants at JCrew...but didn't (no shock really) make it to the movies.

What wasn't on the menu was stumbling upon TopShop's fall 2009 lookbook and discovering that I love.love everything:

Much as I love summer (and will desperately miss it come winter), I'm feeling a little bit like fall, and am ready to start layering cozy separates!

I've got lots of great things to share this week, including a fabulous new blog, loads of great fashion, and more!! I hope everyone else had a great weekend!!

Weekend . Update

I'm finally getting over my doesn't-want-to-leave cold that B. gave me, and since I haven't left the house in days, I'm hoping to have a busy-in-a-relaxing-way kind of weekend. Here's what I'm hoping to accomplish:

* Look for new skinny black pants. These will go with everything come the fall semester, so hopefully I'll find a pair that I can wear over and over again. I have my eye on the ones above from JCrew!

* Take stuff to the recycling center. We could probably build a second house out of all of the cardboard we've accumulated.

* Groceries, groceries, groceries. Sometimes I really love to grocery shop, but this weekend it just feels like an icky chore.

* Photograph and list new things in the Pretty Little World store.

* Finish reading, The Family by Jeff Sharlet. After seeing him on Bill Maher a couple of weeks ago, I picked up his book. While it's definitely freaking me out a little bit, it's an excellent look at a particular group of fundamentalists in America.

* See a movie!! We've been camped out watching season 1 of Battlestar Gallactica on dvd, and I haven't been to the theatre in forever. I'm torn between Inglorious Bastards and District 9...has anyone seen either yet??

What are your weekend plans??!!

... BTW, did everyone catch the season premiere of Project Runway last night?!! I think it's missing a little something on Lifetime, but I was stoked to have it back on anyway. My absolute favorite look was this little blue number:

I think it was a mistake to not consider this for winning -- the detailing was standout, IMO. I can't wait for more next week!!

The cutest little elephant card ever.

This teeny little camera and the pictures it can take are crazy cool.

Kristen Stewart is supposedly finally getting rid of her mullet. {Thank God!!}{Not that it matters what KS does, but I wouldn't wish that haircut on my worst enemy.}

Once Wed posts another gorgeous wedding complete with pretty ruffled dress...that the bride wears with floral tights!!

The Catskills in a beautiful area of the country; very woodsy, very rustic. So what is this modern glass house doing there?

New . Vintage

...in the store now

Pete . Meet . Scarlett

I'm a HUGE fan of Pete Yorn -- his album, Music for the Morning After, is one of my favorite ever. When I heard he was collaborating with Scarlett Johanssen, I was skeptical. She's a gorgeous.gorgeous gal, and not a bad actor, but musically....eh, not so much.

Yet I forced myself to watch the new video for their single "Relator" and I'm smitten!! The song is fun, the video is cute...it's kind of perfect.

Guest . Blogger {Brianne Lee}

What I will be buying this fall.

Hi Pretty Little World Readers! This is Brianne from BrianneLee, and lovely Kristen asked me to write a guest post for her blog. I was so excited when she asked and I could not wait to write my post for her site. I discovered Pretty Little World last year after I purchased a dress from Kristen's Etsy shop, and I was soon hooked. Her always inspiring posts keep me coming back for more.

Fall fashion is always easy to get excited for. Unfortunately this year I will be shopping on a budget, but I feel that a few key pieces will instantly update my wardrobe. Below you will find a few things that I am looking forward to purchasing for my instant fashion refresh.

(1) Leather jacket

Silence & Noise Hooded Bomber Jacket

This one from Urban Outfitters is cute, but the price tag is still a little high. I have found similar styles at stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx for around $30.

(2) Boots

Vintage Frye Boots

I love Frye boots, but their price tag can be a bit hefty. These vintage ones are super cute and a little more wallet friendly.

(3) Necklace

French Victorian Locket

I LOVE vintage lockets. I have a slightly scary in size growing collection of them. Etsy has a plethora of great vintage options. Just throw one on a chain and you are ready to go.

(4) Scarf

Vintage Paisley Chain Scarf

Scarves are an easy way to spruce up a boring old tee shirt. This one from Kristen's Etsy shop is perfect for fall.

(5) Sweater

Funneled Folds Cardigan

I also have a small obsession with sweaters. This one is perfect for trolling around an antique flea market on a quiet Sunday.

Thank you Brianne for such a lovely.lovely post!! Don't forget to check out Brianne's blog, BrianneLee for more great things!!
