Tulle

I do splurge on accessories from time to time, but it's harder with clothes. I hate falling in love with something in a magazine and then noticing that it costs twice my mortgage payment -- and who knows what I'll want to wear a year down the road.

This is why one of the best things about the new issue of Lucky is that absolutely everything in the magazine is under $100.00! Of all of the fab shops mentioned, Tulle is one of the best -- everything in stock is bright and airy.

Not only are their prices already low (I can't find anything over $70.00), but in July you get an additional 35% off if you enter the code LUCKYBREAKS3 at checkout!!

Sorry . for . the . Delay...

...in posting. Moving Day turned into Moving Weekend +1 Day, because apparently whenever you move, belongings you don't even remember begin to ooze out of the walls and floors. This seems to continue to the point until you hate every item that you own :(

I'll try to post something more interesting tomorrow!! Happy Monday!!

Timeless . Vixen . Vintage

While I'm deeply attached to all of the technology that's developed recently (you couldn't get me to give away my iPhone if you tried your best), one regret that I have about living today is that unless you belong to a relatively small group of wealthy people, you don't have much excuse to dress up on a regular basis. I wear sundresses throughout much of the spring and summer, but I want to be able to go places where I can toss on a ballgown -- something frou-frou with lots of lace and tulle.

This lack of opportunity is one of the reasons why looking through Timeless Vixen Vintage's Store is made all the more painful. Each confection in this lovely shop is a stunning example of early-mid 20th century formal fashion. I'm smitten with every piece, and particularly in love with the 1920s beaded flapper dresses!! (*Cough* *Cough* Christmas in July, anyone??)

Sienna . in . London

According to Luxist, Sienna Miller has recently put her London pad up on the market. When I saw it, I knew I had to sneak in a quick post!

The Basement (yes, the basement):

...wonder what kind of parties she has down there!!

Moving . Day

I was going to try and get around to a new post today, but it doesn't look like the time will be here -- IT'S FINALLY MOVING DAY!!!

We're trying to get the bulk of our belongings moved into our new house today -- it will be messy for awhile, but hopefully I'll be able to get some of the first "before and after" pics up early next week!!

Happy Thursday everyone!!

Amy . Rice . New . Work

I check Amy Rice's website a couple of times a month in hopes that new pieces pop up. Her work is nothing flashy, and she mostly sticks with the same colors, but ever since I saw her "Nest" Installation with Terrence Payne, I've been completely head-over-heels for her paintings.

Unlike a lot of other artists who only sell through gallery shows, Ms. Rice offers some of her work for sale directly through her blog!! And she just recently posted some new pieces. Hooray!!

Hopeless

So, I'm kind of smitten with Hopeless, a vintage-inspired lingerie line based in Australia. Owned and run by sisters Gabrielle and Dominique Adamidis, each piece is handmade and perfectly gorgeous. The fabrics (especially the silk) on these pretty little pieces seem fluid and lux.

Farmers . Market

After recently reading about how much fuel it takes to ship produce to the grocery store, B. and I have decided to try and lessen our carbon footprint by buying as much of our produce as we can from our local farmer's market.

This past Saturday was our first trip this year, and it's so difficult not to go overboard and buy absolutely everything!

I.Q.

I need a couple of new pairs of running shorts. These do double-duty for when I actually go running, and are comfortable to work around the house. As I'm klutzy and get paint all over whatever I'm wearing, these need to be cheap also. So, Forever21 seems the best option, as they usually have racks of such clothes.

When I stop by today, of course, I can't find anything but teeny.tiny jean shorts. So I ask:

Me: Did you guys get rid of all of your sweat shorts?
Sales Girl: What?
Me: Do you not carry jogging shorts any more?
Sales Girl: Like, leggings?
Me: No, I'm looking for running shorts.
Sales Girl: **confused look**
Me: Like sweatpants, but shorts.
Sales Girl: **in snotty tone** Um, we don't sell sweatpants.
Me (the "in my head" version): What are you talking about? You have them all of the time. I have several pairs that I've purchased here before. And seriously - a condescending tone? You're a clerk. A CLERK AT FOREVER21!! **Huffy walk out of the store**
Me (real me): Um, thanks.

Isn't there some kind of interview that people have to go through to get hired?

Numero . Korea . June 2009

All of the best fashion editorials seem to come from non-US publications lately: Numero, Muse, Velvet, VS, Dansk, etc. etc. The US definitely needs to catch up a smidge, if only because I can't afford to subscribe to all of these wonderful overseas mags!

But alas, I'm in love with spreads like the one below, with its mostly washed out palette and contained pops of color:

Resort . Wedding

I'm absolutely for "non-wedding" wedding dresses, and these pieces from the Resort 2010 collections have me swooning! The way that they drape, the diaphanous (but not too sheer) fabric...le sigh.

Su . Blackwell

I seem to be most in love with art pieces that have a lot of intricate detail. Even if the pieces are small, there's still so much to look at. (Droll Girl always has some amazing examples of this style.)

This tendency is perhaps why I'm so completely smitten with Su Blackwell. Each of Blackwell's art pieces is nothing if not a study of the very small. The book sculptures and installations are sprightly, clean, and a bit like living in a fairytale:
