Metal . Ware

I recently picked up this vintage metal cabinet from Lamb's Gate Antiques. After we ripped out the hideous built-in that had previously been in the house, we'd been looking for the perfect piece to replace it. It had to be small enough to not feel in the way, but substantial enough to avoid looking like we we'd just sat something there.

This little cabinet is both functional and lovely, + it goes with the color scheme (green, gray, cream/white) that we've been using. Now I'm keeping an eye open for a mirrored tray + a vintage globe, and we're going to use it as a little bar of sorts. (Right now it's home to some coral and vintage test tubes that I found at a salvage shop.)

In other news, I finally caught up with the last two episodes of Gossip Girl, and without spoiling anything, let me just say this:

1. I get that Nate is not the brightest bulb in the box, but after getting bamboozled sooo many times, why doesn't he start to pick up on scheming more quickly? WAKE UP NATE!
2. No one likes Vanessa. Can't we just all agree on that and get rid of her already?
3. If we've thrown out all pretense of reality - which, lets face it, we have - lets stop saying that any of these people are college students. Living in NY and having a fancy apartment does not a student make.

Clemence + Chuck Bass

Gah!!! New in TV news this week: Clemence Poesy will be joining the cast of Gossip Girl this fall as a new love interest for Chuck Bass! I was disappointed with all but the last couple of episodes of GG this past season, but the addition of Clemence has me counting down the days until the show returns this fall!

What do you think: Clemence + Chuck, yay or nay?

I love this editorial -- the clothes are totally fun, not too fussy, and that girl's hair is crazy/amazing!

Also, has anyone else been watching the new F/X show, Justified? I'm kind of in love with Timothy Olyphant, so I'd probably watch it even if it wasn't great, but it is great. Highly recommend. (It's on Tuesdays at 10pm, and I think you can watch full episode online too.)

I've . Got . the . Gossip . Girl . Blues

** Spoiler Warning **
If you haven't seen the last few episodes of Gossip Girl (and care!), you might want to skip past this post!

I'll start out by saying that I do like Gossip Girl. And the first two seasons I watched on dvd, and watched in about two days.

This season, eh, it's okay. Some of the story lines seem like throwaway ideas, and I've written before about some of the very unrealistic aspects of GG, but this season seems to be pushing it even further. For instance,

1. Jenny - 16-year-old-high-schooler-still-living-with-her-parents-Jenny - continues to be dressed like a 40-year old prostitute who hangs out in the seedier parts of Miami.



Now that she's hooked up with a Euro Trash drug dealer (GG's words, not mine!), it's only a matter of time before she's doing lines off the toilet seat in some posh restaurant.

2. And speaking of wardrobe issues, Serena (who has, without the benefit of education or experience, somehow wrangled a PR job at a US Congressional office) is even more frequently being dressed like a high-class call girl. This is what she wore for a day at the office:



... granted, I have never worked for a congressman, but I suspect that coming into work in a skintight mini dress with bright red fishnets would not be looked on kindly.

Also, did anyone else think it a tad odd that immediately after winning election to office, the (supposed) ultra ethical congressman-elect thought the first and smartest thing he should do was have a martini with an 18-year old in a public bar? Hmmm....

3. Vanessa is going about her....adfafsfdvcxbgsG.



Sorry, I fell asleep at the computer. I don't know what real function Vanessa has on the show and she gets the most boring story lines ever.

4. Dan and Nate have sort of turned into the same character, but since neither C.C. or P.B. could act much to begin with, it doesn't really matter, does it?

5. Blair and Chuck. Ah, a bit of relief, at last. These two continue to smolder, plot, and smolder some more. Do little fires start all over the set when they film their scenes?



Perhaps we could all suggest that GG just become the Blair & Chuck show -- I would absolutely still watch that.

The third season is also where The O.C. started to go seriously downhill as well. Perhaps after two seasons, Josh Schwartz should just pass the creative buck onto someone else?

How . Old . Are . You?

I just got done watching the second season of Gossip Girl on dvd. I LOVE Gossip Girl. The clothes, the feuding, the backstabbing, Ed Westwick, the love triangles, Ed Westwick.... This week I also caught the first episode of The Vampire Diaries (which was a little lackluster, and copied stories from about every other vampire story ever).

After watching both of these in short order, there was one thing that I had to wonder about: exactly how old are these characters?

They're supposed to be in high school, but apparently they all go to "I talk, dress, and carry myself like I'm 30" high school. It's really no wonder that adults watch these shows because none of the characters act the age they're supposed to be.

The only show I've seen where people act like high schoolers is The Hills, which is weird, because those girls actually are adults.

I sort of feel like Dawson's "Everyone's a Philosopher" Creek did this to teenage programming, but maybe I'm imagining things. This isn't really a complaint, I'm just saying....

Can't . They . Afford . Stylists?

I'm normally a big fan of the GG girls - and their personal style - but something has gone awry at this event:



Jessica Szohr, who normally dresses a smidge on the plain side, looks STUNNING here! That blue dress is perfection on her! Leighton is okay, but she kind of looks like she wore a bad 80's blazer and forgot her pants. Blake herself looks lovely, but she bought a romper that seems not very well-proportioned.

And then there's Taylor. I get that she wants to dress.act.be older, and IMO, she can wear whatever she wants - if it doesn't make her look like a groupie/hooker. Can't someone help her tone it down just a little?

Private . Practice

I just finished watching the short first season of Private Practice on dvd. It started out a bit trite, but after a few episodes, I kind of liked it. It's fluff, don't get me wrong, but fun fluff ;)

I realize that this is television (land of the insanely unrealistic), but my major gripe with this show is that everyone is ridiculously beautiful. Even on Grey's Anatomy there are slightly less attractive characters. Not so with Private Practice:



Even in L.A., what are the chances that a seven person office would be filled with this many pretty people? I work at a university, with thousands of other people -- where the hell is someone on my campus who looks like Taye Diggs? Not there.

Also, I really would like the collective wardrobe of the women on this show; I would particularly like to have Addison's blouses:
